sick baby

Last Monday baby boy woke up 6, SIX, times throughout the night. I could tell he wasn’t really ever in a deep sleep so I too was drifting in and out of dreamland all night. In the morning he felt a little warm so I figured I should take his temp. I rushed around digging through random baby gear looking for his thermometer I had no idea where it was because I had never had to take it before. I finally found it, stuck it under his arm and waited 20 seconds until it read 101.1 my heart skipped a beat. I Googled “6 month old with a fever of 101” (I don’t know what new parents did before Google). Finally, Mamma called the doctor and the doctor said…it sounds like an ear infection. We go in aaand no dice, the doctor said it was a virus and didn’t seem too concerned. After two more sleepless nights and two more fussy days all was well again. We made it through, happy ending! Every time we progress through a difficult phase I feel a little bit stronger and more equipped to face what is next. It always seems like we are facing a new challenge and although Tucker is an easy baby, we still face growth spurts, baby gas bubbles, teething, and over-tiredness. Each of these minor everyday baby occurrences is cake compared to a sick baby! Health is something I take for granted until someone gets sick, it was a great reminder that God is in control and all I could do was trust that he was taking care of my baby. I am truly, SO thankful for a healthy family.

neck.lace

The babe and I traveled to Minocqua last weekend while Matt was helping Britt and Jon move from North Carolina to Wisconsin. We stayed at my dad's house where there is always a project to be done! I have been wanting something to hold my necklaces and because my jewelry box is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs and I never take the time to use it on a daily basis. So here is was my necklace situation before.
Once the little one was napping I was able to start my mini project!

I went for a little walk in the back yard where I found my wood
Stained then added hooks and a hanger
Stenciled
Finished! A much better home for my necklaces :)

welcome home to wisconsin weise's!

We are thrilled that Brittany and Jonny moved back to the Midwest from North Carolina! Jonny is starting a graduate program at UWL and Britt accepted a nursing position with Mayo in La Crosse. So of course Gabbee and I needed to make them a little house warming gift for their new home!
Now that Britt & Jon are only a short 2.5 hours away Tucker can see his Godparents whenever he wants! We are so blessed to call these three family!
Above all else, love each other deeply.

happy mother's day!

Happy Mothers Day all you new and seasoned mommies! We had a lovely first Mother's Day. We went to Grandpa Rick's church where he preached about anger management, a nice Mother's Day topic, listen here to these life giving words. After church we drove to La Crosse to help Britt and Jon move into their new house. It was so great for the 9 of us (11 including the pups) to be together again after 9 months of being in separate cities. After a day of unpacking we went out for dinner then had peanut butter pie! Yum. Throughout the hustle and bustle of the day something I read stuck with me, "Your legacy of mothering well will impact your child long after your time on earth has ended" Mother Letters. Even though I've only been a mommy for a short 6 months, I know what I do each day for my little man is so much greater than the acts themselves. Loving him like I do, I hope, will impact how he views himself when he is older. It is my job to shine the light and love of Jesus into his little soul. With the lord as our strength, we will teach this little boy true love and grace.
I love to give and receive keepsakes so we made salt dough handprints for the grandma’s in Tuck life. If you want to make your very own hand or footprints all you need is: 2 cups of flour 1 cup salt 1 cup water
knead until smooth
Press tiny hand into dough
Bake at 200 degrees for about 2-3 hours.
Paint!
Display!

life as mommy

So much has changed in the past 6 months! I cannot even begin to explain the joy, worry, fatigue, and growth I’ve felt because of our little love. I never thought hearing baby babble could give me so much joy or that I would worry so much when he sleeps. Seriously, I check on him about 100 times-it’s slightly irrational I know. Or if Matt has him in the sun for 1.5 seconds I start thinking he is going to get skin cancer at age 3, Lord help me. I have been so exhausted that I can’t even remember the night before-who knew motherhood would be so much physical labor. They should put that in the handbook! But, when I see that little grin, I melt into a puddle of mommy. Sleepless nights and exploding diapers aside, he is the sweetest little nugget around. Also, since the arrival of the wee one I have been extremely scatter brained. Everyone always talked about “mom brain” and I always thought it was a myth, something to blame forgetfulness on. I am here to tell you that it is not a myth! There has been countless times where I find myself in a room, closet, or cabinet where I cannot, for the life of me, remember what I was looking for. In the early days it would worry me, like something really important wouldn’t get done. Now, I think it is the optimal way to live, if I forget something I think, “oh well, now I have time for something else!” Quite freeing, really. All in all, I can’t believe it has been 6 months but at the same time I can’t believe it has only been six months. The next six can wait, I don’t think I am ready for the next phase. I want to freeze every moment, put it in a jar and keep it forever.

chevron!

Chevron, chevron, chevron! It is everywhere and I cannot get enough! I received a gift card for Hobby Lobby from my dear friend for my birthday and wanted to spend it on a special project for the wee one. I used to have a semi-"girly" canvas painting above his bed and decided I need to boy-it-up a bit with his my favorite colors! (What does it say about me that my favorite color is gray? Don't answer that.) Let me just say, creating this template was not as easy as I imagined. The hubs had to step in and measure/cut tape/measure again. We he finally got just the right angle and it went much smoother from there!
Next, I painted it gray, of course.
Stenciled my saying and touched up my lines.
Voila! Done.

welcome!

Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to connect with you and share my life! I am committing to this blog for a summer as a way to preserve family memories, share projects, and be connected with friends and fam. I am staying home with the little one in addition to one class and a 3 credit internship for my graduate program this summer. I need an outlet for my creativity and I love sharing my handmade creations. I am blessed by a baby who takes good naps so I decided to take advantage of the freeee time I have and not sit around all summer!
